14:28–29.) Peter left the boat and, like Jesus, walked on the water. But when Peter's attention was diverted from his Master to the buffeting winds around him, his faith began to weaken, and he began to sink helplessly into the water. He cried out, appealing to Jesus for help.

' Peter was the other man who walked on water with Jesus! Peter did the impossible when he completely relied on Jesus to enable him. But as soon as Peter took his eyes of faith off Jesus and focused on the storm around him, he immediately lost faith and began to sink out of fear.

It went well for a while until Peter started to sink. And why did he sink? Because he took his eyes off Jesus and put them on other things. The Bible tells us, “When he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid” (verse 30).

As the best teacher and exceptional knower of the human heart, Jesus knew how to best deal with the fisherman from Galilee. The overflowing net made a deep impression on Peter. "For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the catch of fish which they had taken..." (Luke 5:9).

Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm. At this the men greatly feared the LORD, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to him. But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights.

Figuratively, to “walk on water” is to perform an impossible or godlike task: “When I told him the project had to be done by Tuesday, he made me feel as though I were asking him to walk on water.”

Their lack of understanding and “hardened hearts” didn't keep Jesus from helping them through his power as the Word of God. The account of Jesus walking on the water is recorded three times in the scriptures. It's significant to note that Matthew, Mark, and John, three of Jesus' disciples, are who recount the story.

Peter's walk on the water teaches us that in the middle of storms we can have peace IF we keep our eyes on Jesus. The storms of life give us good reason to be afraid. But Jesus is bigger than even the scariest of storms.
