Tom comes over to try to get Adam to sit back down, but Adam insists on talking to Olive. Finally, Olive starts playing the video. Adam grows furious as he realizes what happened. He tells Tom that he's going to kill him and goes after him, but Olive tells Adam that he's not worth it.
Olive goes to Adam's new hotel. After talking about Malcolm, the conversation gets around to Olive's reason for seeing Adam. Though it kills her inside, she ends things, not mentioning Tom or any of the real reasons for needing their relationship to end. They kiss a final time, both barely able to pull away.
The chemistry between Olive and Adam is insane.
There's an age gap of about 8-9 years between these two, so Olive loves to make fun of him for being old. She also loves to make fun of his healthy eating habits.
The book has a nice cyclical nature to it. A cute happy ending and the epilogue was not your usual 'bam, I put a ring on it ASAP, and you're pregnant and you've got a Nobel Prize all in one year', so I loved that. I really admire Hazelwood for her Tom Benton storyline.
I've seen The Love Hypothesis proclaimed as spicy, which it is, but it's in no way smutty. There's really only one (admittedly extensive) sex scene in this book. But that scene was absolute fire. Again, it's a slow burn of a romance, but the one aforementioned sex scene is about as open-door as it gets.
Olive Smith is the main character and protagonist of The Love Hypothesis. She struggles with her self-image and tends to focus on all the ways she feels messy, rather than all the accomplishments she achieves.
Although narrated in the third person, this is Olive's story, her dreams, her work, her loyalty to her friends (while I want an Adam, can I also get an Anh and a Malcolm too, as part of the package), and her spunk. And her love for Adam.
Olive is demisexual, and the term is explained once in an internal monologue, and once to Adam. The latter of these scenes literally brought me to tears, because as a demi person, I love seeing a partner so understanding. The story is, as I mentioned, rich with romantic comedy tropes, and it doesn't shy away from them.
